Out and Back
The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area is a 44,724-acre National Conservation Area located in southwest Utah, north of St. George at the northeastern-most edge of the Mojave Desert. It is managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Landscape Conservation System, and was created as part of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area is part of the larger multi-jurisdictional Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, which was created in 1996 to protect the habitat and populations of the desert tortoise and other species.
The Queens Garden Trail beginning at Sunrise Point, descending 320 feet (98m), is considered the least difficult trail entering the canyon from the rim. Traveling this trail you will see many hoodoos, representative of garden-like features. Using your imagination you may be able to see Queen Victoria at the end of a short spur trail, overseeing the garden before her.
Lion's Mouth Cave was named due to its distinctive appearance of looking like the mouth of a Lion. It is sacred to the local Indians. Lion's Mouth Cave is located west of Cedar City, Utah and can be reached by taking highway 56 west to Pinto road. Travel about 1.2 miles on Pinto road until there is a pullout on the right hand side of the road. A trail with signs goes up to the cave. The site is protected by the state of Utah.
Jenny’s Canyon is a great hike for families and small children. Because of the endangered habitat, this trail is closed seasonally from March 15 – June 1. Check with Park Officials for more details.
The Pando Forest Overlook is a viewpoint overlooking Fish Lake, near Richfield, UT. The viewpoint can be accessed by vehicle, though it is recommended that you take a vehicle with higher clearance, such as a truck or SUV.
Hidden Valley Trail is a 4.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Ogden, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Hickman Bridge Trail is a 1.7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Torrey, Utah that features beautiful wildflowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November.
Farmington Creek Trail (aka Car Graveyard Hike) is a 2.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Farmington, Utah that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Cassidy Arch Trail is a 2.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Torrey, Utah that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November.
